Principal's Celebration

Book Week 2025
What a wonderful week of celebrations we had for Book Week 2025! This year’s theme, “Book an Adventure,” came alive in our school community through creativity, imagination and a shared love of reading.
Across the week we experienced a wide range of activities, including our Decorated Door Competition, cosy Reading Rug Adventures, and the exciting Great Paper Escape and Search and Shade Adventure. Students embraced the Book Swap and showed their creativity in writing a book in a week, designing adventure-themed bookmarks, and tackling the challenge of guessing how many pages were in the book.
A huge thank you goes to our staff, parents and students who made the week such a success. Your enthusiasm, time and energy ensured that every activity was enjoyed and every child felt part of the celebration.
Special thanks to:
- Mrs Mohr for leading our Book Week celebrations each year.
- Sally Lindenmayer for being the driving force behind the Book Week activities this year, fulfilling one of her School Captain promises.
- Mrs Horncy for ensuring the Library looked amazing.
- Mrs Farmer, Mrs Lindenmayer and Prep TAs for The Great Paper Escape.
- Mrs Sense for ordering prizes through Book Club.
- Nicky for an amazing display at the Tuckshop and yummy meal deal.
- All classes and teachers for their amazing doorways!
- Parents and families for their efforts with costumes.
- Centenary Heights State High School Senior students who joined us for Captain’s Storytime
- Families who shared in the joy of reading during our Family Library Afternoon.
Congratulations to the Decorated Doorway competition winners:
- 1st Place: 1L
- 2nd Place: 1A, 1CH, Prep T
The highlight for many was, of course, our colourful whole school Book Week Parade, which filled the school with excitement.
Book Week is always a reminder of the power of stories to connect us, inspire us and spark adventure in our everyday lives. Thank you again to everyone who joined in this celebration of reading—we truly booked an adventure together!

Instrumental Music Recruitment Concert
On Monday 18 August, the Instrumental Music team held the annual Instrumental Music Recruitment Concert for all Year 2 and 3 classes. The concert featured performances from the Symphony Orchestra and selected students demonstrating each instrument. Thank you to Mrs Johansen, Mrs Jensen, Mr Gray and all students involved. Special thanks to the soloists: Elouise (violin), Anshdeep (viola), Bonnie (cello), Theo (double bass), Isla (flute), Sally (clarinet) & Harvey (saxophone)!
Term Four Planning Days
During Weeks 7 and 8, our teachers will be offline for one day per year level to engage in collaborative planning in preparation for Term Four.
We greatly appreciate your understanding with this change to our usual routines. Where possible, we have booked teachers who are already familiar with our school’s routines and processes to ensure continuity for students.
This dedicated time is an important opportunity for teachers to plan together with a strong focus on the implementation of V9 English and Mathematics, ensuring consistency and high-quality learning experiences for all students.
Father's Day Stall
Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, the P&C Father’s Day Stall will be back in 2025. Open Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd September!
Thank you to our community for your Father's Day Stall gift donations.
Father's Day Dollars are now available from Flexischools. Students will receive vouchers with their spending amount. Just like shopping with cash, students will take these vouchers during their class shopping time, select items (up to the value of the voucher) and pay at the register. There will be no change given so student's will be encouraged to purchase up to the value of their voucher.

News from Mrs Griffiths - Deputy Principal (Prep & SWD)

GET SET FOR PREP SUCCESS!
Our first ‘Get Set for Prep’ morning was a hit! Forty-three future Prep students and their families explored our classrooms, meeting teachers and teacher’s aides. Our teachers provided a variety of hands-on work stations including crown making, threading necklaces, construction and playdough.
Taking this first step into Prep was a wonderful milestone, and it was heartening to see their smiles and confidence grow throughout the morning. A standout moment was the positive way in which our Year 6 leaders engaged with the Pre-Preps. They welcomed families with kindness and maturity and were wonderful role models of what it means to be part of our Rangeville school community.
We have two more Get Set for Prep dates planned for Term 4 and look forward to getting to know our 2026 Prep Cohort!
Get Set for Prep Morning 2: Thursday, October 16 – 9:15am to 10:30am
Get Set for Prep Morning 3: Tuesday, November 4 – 9:15am to 10:30am

ENROL NOW FOR PREP 2026
Placements in Prep for 2026 are filling quickly! Please ensure that you enrol now to ensure the smoothest transition for your child. Enrolment packs are available from the Office or online.

WELCOME TO OUR KINDY FRIENDS!
We have invited the Rangeville Early Learning and Oak on Rangeville Kindy groups to spend a special morning with us in Prep. Our Kindy friends will get to meet our teachers, explore the classrooms and join in some fun activities to see what life in Prep is like.
Date: Thursday, 11 September
Time: 9:15am to 10:30am
Each Kindy group has received a backpack containing a Rangeville uniform, lunchbox, drink bottle, pencil case and a book for questions. With the help of their educators, the children will draw and write questions of what they would like to know about school so that our current Prep students can reply. We can’t wait to see what they ask!
NEURODIVERSITY WORKSHOP
On Tuesday afternoon, our staff took part in the second session of our Neurodiversity Workshop series, presented by Emma Quinn our Principal Advisor for Autism. The workshop encouraged teachers to reflect on how they can respond to the diverse needs of learners, making adjustments that remove barriers and foster success. Staff engaged in practical discussions and shared examples of strategies that promote positive participation, well-being and learning. It was a great reminder of how small changes can make a world of difference!

News from Mrs Thieme - Deputy Principal (Years 1-3)
Reading Through the Australian Curriculum – V9 Australian Curriculum in Practice
Throughout 2025, teachers at Rangeville have been developing their knowledge and skills in the Version 9 Australian Curriculum requirements for teaching reading.
Six key components form the basis of effective reading. Each fortnight, we will share tips from Reading Rockets on the importance of each component and ways you can support your child to become a skilled reader.
The six components of reading are concepts of print, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Underlying all of these is oral language.
Concepts of Print
Print awareness (also called “concepts of print”) is a child’s earliest introduction to literacy. Children with print awareness understand that print carries meaning and has different functions depending on the context in which it appears — for example, menus list food choices, a book tells a story, a sign can identify a favourite restaurant or warn of danger.
Most children become aware of print long before they enter school. They see print all around them, on signs and billboards, in alphabet books and story books, and in labels, magazines, and newspapers. Seeing print and observing adults’ reactions to print helps children recognize its various forms.
The ability to understand how print works does not emerge magically and unaided. This understanding comes about through the active intervention of adults and other children who point out letters, words, and other features of the print that surrounds children.
When children are read to regularly, when they play with letters and engage in word games, and later, when they receive formal reading instruction, they begin to understand how the system of print functions; that is, print on a page is read from left to right and from top to bottom; that sentences start with capital letters and end with periods, and much, much more.
As they participate in interactive reading with adults, children also learn about the features of a book — such as author and illustrator names, book title, and page numbers. They also learn about book handling — including how to turn pages, how to find the top and bottom of a page, how to identify the front and back cover of a book.
As part of this learning, they begin to develop the very important concept of a “word” — that meaning is conveyed through words; that printed words are separated by spaces; and that some words in print look longer (because they have more letters) than other words.

Interschool Sport
Year 5 & 6 families, please note that this coming Friday (29 August) sees the last of our interschool sports fixtures. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us. If you have not paid your invoice yet, please ensure payment is finalised this week.
Carbal Hearing Health School Visit
The Schools Hearing Health program is an initiative that has been operating over a number of years and is fully funded by Carbal Medical Services for indigenous students.
The team from Carbal Hearing visits our school each term and liaises with parents through the school office to gain permission prior to screening. If you have provided permission earlier in the year, there is no need to do so again. Our next scheduled visit is Monday 1 September 2025.
Should students require a follow-up consultation after the screening at school, Carbal’s Health Workers will make direct contact with parents.
Non-indigenous students are also able to access the hearing screening through this service, however, this will incur a $25.00 fee. If you require any further information or would like to complete a permission form, please speak with our friendly office staff who will be able to assist you.
Student Code of Conduct
We are currently reviewing the school’s Student Code of Conduct. We are seeking the feedback of families to help guide this review and ask that you complete the survey that was emailed on Friday. It is important that we have the input of parents/guardians/carers as we engage in ongoing collaboration with our school community.
We ask that you complete the short survey and return it to the school office by Friday 5 September 2025. Paper copies of the survey will be available at the office for your convenience. A draft copy of the Student Code of Conduct will also be available in the office for perusal from the end of Week 7.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback.
School Uniform
Thank you to all of those parents and carers who assist us in following the school’s dress code policy. Our P&C, and Nicky in particular, have worked hard to make sure that families are able to source uniforms that align with our dress code.
We are seeing a range of coloured jumpers and jackets at school at the moment, and we ask your assistance in ensuring that your child is dressed in the school colours of red, navy or blue. Nicky has a range of new and second-hand jumpers, jackets and track pants available which means children should not have to wear alternative colours.
Please also ensure that you have clearly named your child’s uniform so that we can get it back to them if it is misplaced when they ‘warm up’ during the day.
A reminder that coloured hair, nail polish, jewellery and make up are not part of our uniform and should not be worn to school at any time. Hair, if longer than collar length is to be tied back.
Thank you.
Tuckshop News
A competition to name the newly renovated tuckshop was held recently with entries coming from all year levels across the school.
A team from the P&C reviewed the many and varied entries to come up with a short list that was shared at the August P&C meeting. It was decided at this meeting that the 2025 Student Council should have the final vote as representatives of the student body. At their meeting on Wednesday, a clear winner was decided.
Our students will now source their yummy lunches and treats from "THE HUNGRY BITE".
Thank you to everyone for your input and interest in naming this important part of our school.
Date Claimer:
A reminder to our Year 5 families that the Emu Gully Camp Parent Information Session is on this Wednesday 27 August at 2.30pm in the Resource Room.
If you are unable to make it at this time, paper copies of all information shared at the meeting will be sent home with students.
We would also like to remind parents that the Online Consent for this activity is due to be completed in QParents by Wednesday 27 August.
News from Mr Manttan - Head of Curriculum
Exemptions from School Attendance (Absences Longer Than 10 Days)
From time to time, families may experience circumstances that require a student to be absent from school for an extended period. For absences longer than 10 consecutive school days, parents/carers are required to seek an exemption from school attendance.
All exemption applications are considered at the discretion of the Principal and must be submitted on the approved departmental form. This form is readily available from the school office and must be completed and signed before the exemption can be considered.
Exemptions may be granted for a range of reasons, including (but not limited to):
- Illness or hospitalisation (including recovery at home)
- A diagnosed mental health condition
- Temporary relocation overseas
It is important to note that there are situations where exemptions are generally not appropriate. These include:
- Reluctance to attend school
- Difficulties engaging with the curriculum
- Attendance at funerals, where travel is not extensive
- Cultural or religious observances of short duration
These lists are not exhaustive, but are intended to provide families with an understanding of when exemptions for absences longer than 10 days may or may not be considered appropriate.
We also remind families that all student absences must be explained, regardless of the length of the absence. Absences can be reported through QParents, via email to our office staff or classroom teacher, by phoning the school, or in person at the office.

QParents

QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing admin@rangevilless@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 7333 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your child's unique EQID. Your child's EQID can also be found on your child's Semester Report Card.

Rangeville State School P&C Association Outside School Hours Care (ROSHC)

Rangeville Outside School Hours Care Services
Rangeville Outside Hours School Care services are available for families if you need before school care, after school care or vacation care. If you want to know more about what is available, please contact the staff located in the Big Hall (W Block). There is also information on the P&C website www.rsspandc.com.au or email at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au
Reminder for Parents and Children:
If you have booked your children into care, but they will no longer be attending that session, please log into the Xplor App and send through the notification before 2:30 or email roshc@rangeville.eq.edu.au
For the safety of your children and the others using the service, we need to contact parents or emergency contacts, resulting in a time lapse where we cannot find a child. This is a safety risk due to not having the staff ratios while we search for the children absent.
There are multiple ways to notify the service if your child is not attending a session:
- Record an absence via the Xplor App - go to attendance mark as absent (this is the preferred method)
- Call the service - 46177388 and leave a message
- Text through to the mobile - 0421 647 404 (leave a detailed text, Child's full name, date not attending)
- Email the service at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au
If your child is absent from School, you still need to notify the service as we are independent to the school and due to Confidentiality, they are not authorised to notify us of your child's absence.
If we cannot reach the primary contact, emergency contacts are called and if these contacts cannot be reached, THE POLICE WILL BE CALLED.
If you are returning a call, please press EXT 4 to connect directly to the service. If not answered, please leave a message or text the mobile immediately.
If you do not notify us, you will incur a $5 penalty fee, as we are spending considerable time trying to find these absent children in the school grounds.
If this occurs more than 3 times, we may consider reviewing your enrolment.
Safety of all children is our priority!
Thank you for consideration with this.
