Principal's Celebration

Celebrating Teaching Excellence at Rangeville
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Helen McCullough (Regional Director) and Meaghan Rodgers (School Supervisor) to Rangeville for a school visit. Their time on campus, though brief, left them both expressing praise for the outstanding teaching and learning practices they observed.
Thank you to our Year 1 and Year 2B teachers and students, who warmly welcomed our guests into their classrooms. Helen and Meaghan were particularly impressed with the consistent implementation of Reading through the Curriculum across the Year 1 classrooms, and the thoughtful use of texts aligned with the Year 2 unit in 2B.
They also highlighted the evidence of best practice through our learning walls and bump-it-up walls, noting how confidently students spoke about how these tools support their learning.
It was a joy to showcase a snapshot of the wonderful work happening at Rangeville. While the visit only covered a few classrooms, I want to acknowledge that this level of consistency and dedication to best practice is a reflection of the amazing work happening across our school implementing V9 English Curriculum.
Helen and Meaghan are already looking forward to returning—and visiting even more classrooms next time!

Staffing Update - Deputy Principal
Next week, we welcome Jenny Thieme (pronounced theme) to our leadership team. Jen joins us in Mrs Hodgson's absence. Please see below for a note from Mrs Thieme:
I am very excited to be joining the team at Rangeville State School. I have been a teacher and leader in primary schools for 25 years and have a passion for curriculum, teaching and learning. I look forward to being a part of the Rangeville school community where we learn, achieve and grow together.
Before School Expectations
Earlier this term, we emailed our before school expectations as we currently have a significant number of students in unsupervised areas before school. Staff are rostered on duty in particular areas before the school day begins. Please note: Students are not permitted on school grounds before 8:15am unless arranged with staff and the Principal (for example: Instrumental Music practice).
Please contact ROSCH for before school care options if you need to drop your child prior to 8:15am.
Please review our before school expectations outlined below:
PREP STUDENTS ONLY: | |
8:15am | Prep students move to the Prep/Year 1 playground where staff are on duty. Parents/Carers who choose to wait for the school bell are asked to assist with supervision of their own child on the playground. |
YEARS 1-6 STUDENTS: | |
8:15am | Years 1-6 students move to the Undercover Area (near the rainforest) where staff are on duty. Parents/Carers who choose to wait for the school bell are asked to have children sitting quietly in their line up area. |
ALL STUDENTS | |
8:40am | Bell rings and students move to their class line up area. |
8:45am | School begins. |
9:00am | Arrival after 9am requires students signed in by a Parent/Carer at the office. Teachers will send students who arrive after 9am to the office if they don’t have a late slip. |
9:30 – 10:00am | Unexplained absence texts sent from the office. |
Under 8s Celebration
We were thrilled to celebrate Under 8s Day—a wonderful tradition that brings joy, excitement, and meaningful experiences to our youngest learners.
A special thank you goes to Kath Farmer, whose careful planning and dedication ensured the day was a great success. We also acknowledge the incredible efforts of our Prep and Year 1 teams, who worked collaboratively to create engaging activities that made the day truly special for our students and community visitors.
We were also delighted to welcome representatives from the Toowoomba stations of the Queensland Ambulance and Police Services. Their presence added a real-world dimension to the children’s learning and created opportunities for students to interact positively with community helpers. Thank you for taking the time to visit and share your knowledge and warmth with our students.
Events like Under 8s Day highlight the strength of our school community—when staff, families, and local services come together to support the growth and happiness of our young learners. Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this day wonderful.
Book Fair
A huge thank you to our community for supporting our recent Book Fair.
Thank you to Mrs Sense and her fabulous helpers - Miss Olsen, Mrs Marshall, Mrs Shevlin, Mrs Rigby, Miss Grenning, Mrs Holmes, Mrs Byrne, Mrs Lindenmeyer, Mrs Clarke, Miss McDougall and Troy - for organising, setting up, and running this wonderful event.
Semester One Report Cards
As we approach the end of Term Two, our teachers are busy finalising Semester One Report Cards, which will be emailed home during the final week of this term.
This semester marks an important shift, as we begin the implementation of Version 9 (V9) of the Australian Curriculum in English and Mathematics. With this update, families may notice some changes in how student achievement is described and reported.
The new curriculum places a stronger focus on:
Deep understanding of key concepts
Clear progression of learning
Greater alignment between content and achievement standards
Our teachers have worked diligently to align planning, teaching, and assessment with V9 expectations, ensuring that students are supported and challenged appropriately.
The purpose of end of Semester remains the same: to provide a clear and honest picture of your child’s progress, achievement and areas for growth.
If you have any questions after receiving your child’s report card, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or make a time to meet early next term.
We thank you for your continued partnership as we move forward with these important curriculum updates.
Dogs on school grounds
For the safety and comfort of all students, staff, and families, we kindly remind our community that dogs are not permitted on school grounds during drop-off and pick-up times, unless they are registered assistance animals or have prior permission from the Principal.
While we understand that dogs are much-loved family members, having them on school grounds can create safety risks and discomfort for some students. To support a safe and welcoming environment for all, we ask that:
Dogs remain outside the school fence at all times.
If walking your dog to school, please secure them at a safe distance from gates and walkways.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our school grounds safe and inclusive for everyone.

Please help us spread the word!

News from Mrs Griffiths
CELEBRATING UNDER 8s DAY!
What a joyful time we had celebrating Under 8s Day! This special event was held for our Prep, Year 1 students and younger community members. Our day was filled with fun, creativity and curiosity. From sensory play, craft, a bubble disco, Police and Ambulance vehicles, an obstacle course and storytelling – there was something for everyone to enjoy! It was a wonderful reminder of how important play and discovery are in helping children learn, grown and feel a sense of belonging.
We would like to thank everyone who helped make the day so memorable:
- Our amazing students, whose energy and excitement lit up the whole event;
- Our Student Council members, for your kindness and positivity in engaging with our younger students;
- Families, both current and prospective, for coming along and joining in the fun;
- Staff for your thoughtful planning and big-hearted support, in particular a big shout to Mrs Farmer for your amazing organisation;
- Community groups, such as the Police and Ambulance, who added extra magic with their visit.
GET SET FOR PREP!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting two of our local kindergartens to talk about enrolling in Prep. Starting Prep is a big step for your child. It is also a big step for you as a parent or carer. Rangeville State School welcomes you and will support you and your child to make these steps positive ones.
Plan ahead with this simple checklist:

END OF SEMESTER FAST APPROACHING
As we approach the end of Semester One, our students are busily working on assessments within the classroom space. Families play a big role in helping their child/children feel confident and supported during this time. Reassure them that assessments are just one part of learning. Celebrate their persistence and progress, emphasising effort over results. Stick to those known routines of eating well and getting plenty of sleep. If you ever have concerns about how your child is coping, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
News from Mrs Hagley
Chappy Week
In Week 7 (2– 6 June) we celebrate school chaplains. This is an opportunity to thank Chappy Tiff for the work she does in supporting students.
Chappy Tiff has connected with so many children at our school. Her willingness to get out and play sports with students has seen her meeting a large group of students. For other students the connections have come through smaller group activities. Please make sure to connect with Chappy in Week 7 and thank her for the support she offers to our community
Playgrounds Before and After School
Just a reminder that playgrounds are strictly OUT OF BOUNDS before and after school. We’ve seen an increasing use of these at these times with parents standing nearby. Workplace Health and Safety protocols are in place permitting the use of playgrounds during school hours only and when supervised by staff members.
We have also noticed a large number of children running around the buildings before school. If your child has energy to burn, please direct them to the Year 2/3 Oval where our supervised ‘Walking Club’ is in action every morning. This is a much safer option and also helps build our cross year level connections with our ‘big kids’ ready and able to engage with the younger students.
Your cooperation with keeping your child/ren from running around the building s and off the unsupervised playgrounds before and after school is greatly appreciated.
Berry Street Education Model (BSEM)
At our school we follow the Berry Street Education Model and use strategies from this trauma informed framework to create positive conditions for learning. A trauma lens allows us to see each young person differently with the understanding “They are not giving you a hard time; they are having a hard time”. Shanker 2020
One of the Berry Street strategies is to create a Calm and Predictable learning environment which comes from supporting students through Consistent Predictable Routines (CPR).
Chappy Corner
Biscuit Fundraiser Update
A big thank you to everyone who supported our recent biscuit fundraiser. Whether you bought a pack (or ten!), encouraged a friend to purchase, or helped a student with their sales – your support has made a difference. We’re currently tallying the totals and working out who our top sellers are. Stay tuned – these top sellers will receive a special prize very soon!
Chappy Week Celebrations
Next week, we’re gearing up to celebrate Chappy Week here at Rangeville State School, running from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th June. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the vital role school chaplains play in supporting our students, staff, and broader school community.
To celebrate, we’ve got some fun and FREE activities planned for students:
Scavenger Hunt – 4th & 5th June
Each year level will have a designated time slot to participate in a fun scavenger hunt! Students who complete the challenge and solve the final puzzle will earn a small prize. Full instructions will be given on the day – get ready for some adventure!
Drawing Competition – “Draw a Portrait of Chappy Tiff!”
Unleash your creativity! Students are invited to draw a portrait of Chappy Tiff. Entries can be handed in to the school office or directly to Chappy Tiff. Please make sure each entry is clearly labelled with your child’s name and class. Our school leaders will judge the entries and choose a winner!
Chalk Drawing Fun
Throughout the week, students can enjoy some creative time outside the Chappy Room, spreading joy and positivity with colourful chalk drawings and messages.
We can’t wait to see the excitement and smiles as we celebrate Chappy Week together! Thank you for your continued support.

School Dental Service: Prep and Year 1 Students
Darling Downs Health is currently offering the School Dental Service to students at Rangeville State School for Prep & Year 1 students. The treatment will be completed in the School Dental Clinic located at Rangeville School Dental Clinic, South Street, Toowoomba.
The Form is attached as is available from the office. Forms are due on 12 June 2025.
QParents

QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 7333 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Your child's EQID can also be found on your child's Semester Report Card.

There is also information on the P&C website www.rsspandc.com.au or email at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au
Reminder to Parents
For the safety of your children and the others using the service, we need to contact parents or emergency contacts, resulting in a time lapse where we cannot find a child. This is a safety risk due to not having the staff ratios while we search for the children absent.
There are multiple ways to notify the service if your child is not attending a session:
- Record an absence via the Xplor App - go to attendance mark as absent (this is the preferred method)
- Call the service - 46177388 and leave a message
- Text through to the mobile - 0421 647 404 (leave a detailed text, Child's full name, date not attending)
- Email the service at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au
If your child is absent from School, you still need to notify the service as we are independent to the school and due to Confidentiality, they are not authorised to notify us of your child's absence.
If we cannot reach the primary contact, emergency contacts are called and if these contacts cannot be reached, THE POLICE WILL BE CALLED.
If you are returning a call, please press EXT 4 to connect directly to the service. If not answered, please leave a message or text the mobile immediately.
If you do not notify us, you will incur a $5 penalty fee, as we are spending considerable time trying to find these absent children in the school grounds.
If this occurs more than 3 times, we may consider reviewing your enrolment.

Experiences
Last week the children celebrated Under 8’s Week where we explored this year's theme of Unleashing Scientific Thinking Through Play. The children loved exploring and engaging in a range of hands-on experiences which included plenty of scientific experiments and creative experiences such as a rain in a cloud, foam painting, playdough, floating and sinking. The children have enjoyed exploring the natural world through collecting materials around them and looking at their different textures through rubbings with crayons and paper. The children have also celebrated World Bee Day where we explored what bees do within our natural world. We also discovered the different types of bees. The children have also been exploring our bush tucker garden through looking at the plants in detail and with their senses.
Vacation Care Winter Vacation Care will be coming up within the next few weeks and we are busy planning and organising activities for the two weeks. It will be a fun filled two weeks with a range of experiences and activities. The vacation care program will be coming out within the next couple of weeks, so look out for that.
Lost Property
Families can you please ensure that your child’s belongings are labelled and easily read as this ensures that they can be returned to the rightful owner. We have a large range of lost property at the moment at ROSHC and the pink containers are located in the foyer. If your child is missing something, can you please check this regularly. Every Friday we do take unnamed belongings down to the section on the veranda where the school’s property is located.
Bookings
Please be aware you will only be able to make bookings if you have your account all set up with us, so please ensure you have finished the enrolment process first. If you would like permanent bookings, email our office roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we can talk to you about this and if we have available spaces we can arrange those bookings for you in xplor. If you are wanting casual bookings this is done via the xplor app and you will be notified of the outcome via the app and an email or phone call if unable to accept the booking. If you are unsure on how to do casual bookings please come and see the office educators and we can help you, or alternatively all the information on this is in the setup of the xplor app. Please notify us via email if any of your details have changed and we will update them in our system.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your Xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible. You can also notify us via the phone 46177388 or our mobile number 0421 647 404. Please note there will be a $5 fee added if you do not inform us that your child/ren are going to be absent and we need to phone you on that particular afternoon.
Thanks
ROSHC Team
Lost Property

Please remember if your child/ren has misplaced a jumper, hat or lunchbox and water bottle it may be located near the Uniform shop on the verandah. We encourage you to please clearly name the items as we have volunteers who sort and return to classes.
Any items of great value such as glasses, watches etc will be handed into the office for collection.
