News from Mrs Griffiths
PREP PHOTO DAY
Prep Photo Day for the Toowoomba Chronicle has been scheduled for Monday, March 10, commencing at 9:30am. Prep students are asked to wear their Rangeville polo shirts with blue shorts or skirts. Photos will be taken of each class and printed in a special edition of the Chronicle. Student names will not be included. We will be using the media consent given upon enrolment. If you do not want your child to participate in the photos, please advise their classroom teacher. We can’t wait to see you smiling faces! 😊
ATTENDANCE – EVERY DAY COUNTS
School aged children are to attend every school day under Queensland law, unless there is an acceptable reason such as illness. If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred within two school days of their return. If possible, it is best to advise the school beforehand.
Establishing good routines around school can assist with regular school attendance. These include:
- have a set time to go to bed
- have a set time to get out of bed
- have uniform and school bag ready the night before
- have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
- set a time for daily homework activities
- speak about school positively

News from Mrs Hagley
NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5 Students
In 2025, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will commence for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 on 12 March 2025.
Rangeville SS will again be participating in NAPLAN Online. All assessments will be done online by students, apart from Year 3 Writing, which will continue in the paper-based form.
In the next coming weeks, our students will be preparing for the online part of NAPLAN. On Wednesday 26 February, we will be doing a practice test in both Year 3 and 5 to confirm that administrative processes, devices and local networks at school are ready prior to undertaking NAPLAN in March.
Supporting your child
All schools in Australia participate in the assessment program at a similar time. There are four components:- Language Conventions; Writing; Reading and Numeracy.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school. NAPLAN results allow parents/carers to check how students are progressing in these essential skills.
The digital skills needed to complete NAPLAN are skills students use in everyday classroom activities. Students do not need to be able to touch type. The online test is not about keyboard skills.
It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing. It is about assessing learning progress. The best approach for preparing your child for NAPLAN is to encourage your child to do the best they can on the day. Excessive preparation or the use of coaching providers is not recommended.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact Mrs Hagley or your child’s teacher. Year 3 and 5 families, please keep an eye out for an email early next week which will provide additional information.
School Uniform
Thank you to all of those parents and carers who assist us in following the school’s dress code policy. Our P&C, and Nicky in particular, have worked hard to make sure that families are able to source uniforms ready for the changing weather.
Please drop in to see Nicky as there is a range of new and second-hand jumpers, jackets and track pants available which means children should not have to wear coloured jumpers or jackets. We look forward to your assistance in ensuring correct uniform colours are worn.
Please also ensure that you have clearly named your child’s uniform so that we can get it back to them if it is misplaced when they ‘warm up’ during the day.
A reminder to the students that coloured hair, nail polish, jewellery and make up are not part of our uniform and should not be worn to school at any time. All students proudly wearing the uniform helps set a positive tone for our school and I urge parents to support the school with these guidelines. Thank you.
Prep 2026 Open and Under 8's Day

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We would like to invite you and your Prep 2026 child to our upcoming Prep Open and Under 8s morning on Friday 7 March from 9:15am - 10:30am. This event is an excellent opportunity to meet our teachers, see our facilities and find out more about our school.
The current Prep and Year One students will also be in attendance, taking part in a range of fun and exciting activities around the school. This presents a fantastic opportunity for your child to not only mingle with our friendly teachers and explore our Prep classrooms, but also to join in all the activities alongside their peers.
Our Principal, Deputy Principals and staff will be available to answer any questions regarding our school and enrolment processes during the event.
Please RSVP here https://forms.office.com/r/aq0C1a7H6E.
On the day, you are welcome to sign in at the Prep area or come to the administration office, and our student leaders will walk you down to the event to sign in.
Thank you for your interest in our school. We look forward to welcoming you on Friday 7 March.

Classroom News
1CH - We took photos to help us understand the learning intention for our current English unit. We are learning to share ideas about a character from a familiar story and express an opinion about why we like them. We describe what the character looks like, their actions and their feelings. We added these photos to our learning wall.

PH- Last week PH met their new buddies from 6B. Everyone was so happy to make some new friends!

PKV - We have been very busy in Prep KV setting up our routines for learning. Students have really enjoyed Numeracy rotations, where we have been practising counting and recognising numbers.
In the photos below:
Evalyn is doing "Playdough smash", where we roll a foam dice, count the dots, make that number of playdough balls and then smash them with our fist as we count! It is lots of fun!
Avery is showing her number recognition, by "popping" a number on a Pop-It, finding what that number looks like and then writing it.
In Literacy, Prep KV have been learning what sounds the letters 's' and 'a' make, and we have set up our Buddy Bubble reading routine. Eden and Adah are showing how we sit "elbow to elbow, knee to knee" in our own bubble space with a reading buddy.

Cross Country / Fun Run
At our first P&C Meeting for the year, we decided to incorporate a Fun Run with our annual Cross Country. The idea is to encourage participation from all students with GREAT prizes and fun!
Please see below for a flyer with all the details including:
* Cross Country / Fun Run - 27 March 2025
* Fundraising begins - 21 February 2025
* Fundraising closes - 21 March 2025
* Prizes are cumulative, meaning students can win up to 16 prizes depending on the amount their raise (see flyer for prizes).

Chappy Corner - Message from Chappy Tiff
Hello! For those who don't know me, my name is Tiffany, and I am the Chaplain here at Rangeville State School. I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to the school this year and I can’t wait to reconnect with everyone—both new faces and familiar ones! I hope you’re all as excited as I am for the great things to come this year.
Upcoming Fundraiser: Bitesize Biscuits!
Keep an eye out for a letter coming home with your child about our upcoming Bitesize Fundraiser. The aim of this fundraiser is to raise much needed funds for the Rangeville State School Chaplaincy service.
The letter will have all the details on how you can get involved, key dates, and a sample of the delicious biscuits for you to try. Your support will make a huge difference, so get ready to enjoy some tasty treats while helping a great cause!
A New Beginning: Breakfast Club
I’m excited to share that we’re currently working on an idea for a Breakfast Club to be launched soon! The plan is to offer a welcoming space where students can come together in the mornings for some tasty food, good conversation, and a positive start to the day. While we don’t have an exact start date just yet, I’m eager to get things off the ground and will keep you updated as we finalise the details.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help bring this vision to life! If you’re interested in being a part of this exciting new initiative—whether it's helping with food prep, setting up, or offering a friendly face in the mornings—please reach out by sending an email to tfitc12@eq.edu.au. Your support will be invaluable in making this a success!
Referrals to the Chaplain
As the Chaplain, I'm here to support our students through life's ups and downs, but I also want to make sure that everyone gets the right help at the right time. If you need to see me, please note that all referrals to the chaplain should go through our wonderful Deputy Principal, Mrs Sue Hagley. This will ensure that you receive the appropriate support and everything is arranged smoothly.
I’m looking forward to an amazing year ahead filled with growth, connection, and plenty of opportunities to support one another.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to volunteer for the Breakfast Club. Let’s make this a year to remember!

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons play a vital role in developing both physical and life skills for children. Not only do they teach water safety and the ability to swim, but they also promote physical fitness, strength, and coordination. Learning to swim helps children build confidence in and out of the water, providing them with a skill they can enjoy and utilize throughout their lives. Furthermore, swimming lessons encourage discipline, focus, and perseverance as children progress through different levels of skill. Above all, ensuring your child is safe around water is invaluable, and early swimming lessons help reduce the risk of water-related accidents. Investing in these lessons is an essential step in fostering a child's growth and wellbeing.

The Opti-MINDS Challenge

This year Rangeville is going to participate in the Opti-MINDS Challenge. Miss Olsen will be facilitating the challenge this year, so please let her know if this sparks your interest. Keep an eye out in the newsletter in the next few months for more information regarding expressions of interest and commitment.
In a world where the ‘facts’ change daily – we need to change our thinking! Opti-MINDS IS the PROCESS of CHANGE…The opportunity to Opti-MISE your thinking for Opti-MUM performance!
Opti-MINDS is a process of PREVENTION – rather than a damage control; it instils a proactive mindset of:
- Capability – “Can Do!”
- Responsibility – “If not me – then who?”
- Creativity & Innovation; &
- Unashamed EXCELLENCE, within participants; encouraging them to REALISE their own capacity and responsibility to ‘MAKE the DIFFERENCE’ for themselves – & to come from an “IF NOT, WHY NOT?” stance.

QParents

QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Your child's EQID can also be found on your child's Semester Report Card.

Finding your feet
We just wanted to make mention of how well the new preps are doing finding their feet with us at roshc. These last few weeks we have been working closely with them ensuring they get to know all our areas of play and what to do if they want to move to different spaces, what our evacuations and lockdowns look like and who to go to when they are in need of any help while at the service. Well done Preps!
Personal Belongings and lost property
If children are bringing in any personal belongings, they need to ensure they are looking after them as the items are the responsibility of the child. We advise that they be clearly labelled or left at home. While we understand that some of these items may be comfort objects, we don’t want them getting lost or picked up by others while at roshc.
If you are missing important items, please see the roshc office as it may have been handed in there. Hats, jumpers, water bottles etc check the roshc lost property bin located near the sign in table in the hallway or educators may have already taken it up to the schools lost property. We encourage you to please clearly name the items so that we can get them back to the correct child ASAP.
New enrolments or updating enrolment
If you would like to enrol your child/ren in ROSHC please send our office an email at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we will send you through our enrolment forms, fee structure, parent handbook, children’s handbook and the booking app xplor information. If any of your personal information has changed, please email all changes through and we will update them in our system.
Bookings
Please be aware you will only be able to make bookings if you have your account all set up with us, so please ensure you have finished the enrolment process first. If you would like permanent bookings, email our office roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we can discuss availability and arrange bookings for you in xplor. If you are interested in casual bookings, this is can be done via the xplor app and you will be notified of the outcome via the app, and an email or phone call if unable to accept the booking. If you are unsure how to make casual bookings, please come and see the office educators, or alternatively all the information on this is in the setup of the xplor app.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or is not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your Xplor app (preferred option) o or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
