Deputy Principal - SWD Message
Special Events - Planning for Success
Specials events such as camps and excursions can be exciting but also challenging for neurodiverse children. With new environments, unpredictable schedules, and unfamiliar sensory experiences, it’s essential to prepare in ways that ensure a positive and supportive experience. Here are some strategies that may help your child to thrive during these events:
- Talk about the special event, defining when they are going, where they are going and how they are going to get there.
- Research the location, downloading maps and pictures, so that that they can familiarise themselves with the place.
- Liaise with the classroom teacher and talk about the planned activities and who will be the staff member in charge of their group.
- Talk about what they may eat or where they will sleep, if staying overnight.
- Discuss how they are going to feel, giving a physical description. Talk through some ‘what will you do if’ scenarios.
- Talk with staff re bringing a small comfort item that can provide a sense of security and familiarity in a new setting.
- Praise your child for their efforts and resilience, as this will help to build their confidence and foster a positive association with future events.
By planning ahead, building support systems, and offering reassurance, special events such as camps and excursions, can open doors for learning, social growth and adventure.

Prep Vision Screening
Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screening checks for common eye conditions that may impact your child’s ability to see and therefore impact their learning and development.
A Registered Nurse will be visiting the school on 15th, 17th & 18th October 2024 to conduct vision screening for children in their prep year.
If you wish to have your prep child participate in this FREE vision screening program, please complete a consent form, this can be done online until Monday 8th May (Midnight) or paper forms can be handed in up until and including screening day morning.
Participation in this free vision screening program is not compulsory. If you do not wish for your child to participate in screening, please complete the consent form and indicate that you wish to decline screening.
Parents do not need to be present for screening, however if you would like to be, please contact the school to arrange this.
If you have concerns about your child’s eyes at any time, please take your child to see an eye health professional (optometrist/ophthalmologist).
For further information, please scan the below QR code to visit the Program website or contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.
Online consent forms will available from 5th June or you can find a paper copy in the school office.
Carbal Health Hearing Screening
Carbal Health will be providing hearing screenings at Rangeville State School on Tuesday 15th October.
We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity by completing the consent form and submitting it to the school office. Copies of the consent form will be available from the office.
Invoices from Carbal will be sent home with participating students.
For any additional information or enquiries, we encourage you to contact Carbal directly on 1300 379 558.
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Your child's EQID can also be found on your child's Semester Report Card.

The wonderful Toowoomba Warriors Softball Team came and conducted a training and information session with the children, and the Wondering Banana - an adventure around the world with presenter Jodie.
