Principal's Celebration
What a fabulous Friday we enjoyed today!
Thank you to the special guests who attended our Under 8’s and Prep Open Day. It was wonderful to have so many visitors join us. Thank you to our Student Leaders, who greeted visitors, assisted with activities and helped tidy up, without prompting!
While our Student Leaders were helping with our special day, we had four of our Student Council run parade. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of George, Danish, Luke and Sam. It is a big deal standing up and taking parade and these four students confidently and capably ensured our normal routines continued!
What a treat our parade was this morning. Mrs Johansen and the Year 3 and Year 4 String Ensembles were just beautiful. We are so proud of the music program here at Rangeville and this morning’s presentations were a great display of the hard work and effort applied by our staff and students.
Thank you to Daniel (Local Chaplaincy Committee Chair) for attending our parade and acknowledging the contributions of our Chaplain Sophie Gittens. We appreciate the time, energy and kindness Sophie has given our school and wish her all the best.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students undertake.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
NAPLAN timetables were emailed to parents of Years 3 & 5 students this afternoon.

Lots of Socks Campaign for World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is on the 21st March 2024. Due to Cross Country on the 21st, we will be celebrating this day on the 22nd March 2024, by wearing fun socks. As a school we invite all students to get behind this wonderful activity to raise awareness. There is no cost, just wear some different socks with your school shoes.
Lots of Socks is a campaign to create conversation and bring awareness of Down Syndrome. The idea behind the Lots of Socks initiative is that all types, shapes, sizes of the same thing can be unique in their own way, and yet do the same thing. Children understand what socks are, how they look and what they are for, and children understand that no two socks are the same. Lots of Socks is a campaign to create conversation about diversity, uniqueness, inclusion and acceptance.
All you need to do is to choose some socks that are going to get noticed – they might be mismatched socks or your most colourful, fun socks! The idea is to start a conversation about Down Syndrome.
Wear your favourite socks to school on Friday the 22nd March 2024!
School Disco
NAPLAN
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is an annual assessment conducted in Australia for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. This year our Year 3 and 5 students will be tested from 18 to 21 March 2024.
Throughout NAPLAN, you can support your child's success by ensuring they have restful nights and begin each morning with a nourishing breakfast.

QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Your child's EQID can also be found on your child's Semester Report Card.

Fun activity this week
This week, Educator Hollie organised an exciting escape room activity that generated immense excitement among the children. Many participated in solving the challenges, sparking creativity as they went on to devise their own unique activities. Here is a snippet from Hollie's write-up on this engaging experience.
"This afternoon, in connection with this week’s theme of 'Challenges Week' and group participation, all children in the room took part in an escape room! Four challenges were intentionally set for the escape room, with instructions hidden around the room. The children swiftly located all the information for the challenges and eagerly dove into problem-solving!
At first, the group split off, attempting to solve their individual parts. However, they soon realised that teamwork was essential for this challenge, as clues were divided, and some challenges proved quite tricky! The first challenge was named the 'Triangle Challenge.' It involved a sheet of paper with numerous triangles that the children had to count to achieve a total number. The trick was that the large triangle encompassing all the small triangles was included in the count. Maddie cracked this trick, and the correct number of triangles was determined to be 17.
The next challenge was a coding test. Using a coding sheet and another piece of paper with the symbols of the code, the children had to match the symbols to the alphabet. This spelled out the word ‘twelve.’ The subsequent test was the alphabet challenge. James excelled at this challenge, matching the number assigned to each letter of the alphabet (A=1), unveiling the word 'seven.'
The final challenge was a mathematical test involving hidden numbers in a math problem that the children had to solve using colored balloons. By examining all the math problems together and understanding that balloons of the same color in different problems meant they were the same number, the children achieved success! Frank worked diligently on this problem, deciphering that the green balloon equaled 1, the blue balloon 9, and the yellow balloon 4.
This escape room was an amazing activity that engaged all the children in the room, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, mathematics, and dynamic thinking skills in a fun, play-based way! Well done to everyone involved."
New enrolments for Term 2 or updating enrolment
If you are wanting to enrol children in ROSHC please send our office an email at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we will send you through our enrolment forms, fee structure, parent handbook, children’s handbook and the booking app xplor information. If any of your personal information has changed, please email all changes through and we will update them in our system.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your Xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
If your child has misplaced any personal items, we kindly ask you to check their classrooms or stop by our Lost and Found area, conveniently located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop. This is where we gather and keep items that might have been left behind in classrooms, on the playground, or elsewhere around the school.
For more precious items like glasses and watches, our administration office is the place to go, as we securely store them there. Our administration office is currently located in P Block.
Labeling your child's belongings with their name and class can be a tremendous help in reuniting lost items with their owners. Please keep in mind that any unclaimed items at the end of each term will be collected and removed. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
