Principal's Celebration
Year Five Emu Gully Camp
Last week's Year Five Camp was an incredible experience for all involved! What a wonderful achievement for this wonderful group of students and staff. Thank you to our dedicated Year Five team who supported all of our students, showcasing their unwavering commitment to our school, learning and opportunities for all. As always camp offers a unique setting to connect with our children and our colleagues in a different environment and with different challenges and this camp certainly provided that with the added bonus of lots of collective and individual laughs. Our children truly embraced (with some tears and trepidations) the new experiences and pushed or stretched their individual and group goals throughout the three days. Please enjoy the below article by 5I and numerous photos that truly represented the experience for all.
World Teacher’s Day 2023
Last Friday was officially World Teacher’s Day in QLD. The many emails received from our Minister for Education, our Director General, our Regional Director and most importantly our community celebrated the significant contribution our wonderful staff make each and every day for our students, our community and the future of our society. We are one of the only professions that through the power of a book, a pen or a comment we can change a child’s or persons trajectory for life. Thank you to our staff for everything that they do each and every day. We have a wonderful school that is built on the positive reciprocal relationships between home and school and I have the pleasure of witnessing our staff’s passion, dedication and commitment to ensure our children Learn, Achieve and Grow every day.
This week, the Federal Government in conjuncture with every state and territory launched the Be That Teacher campaign: if you haven’t already seen this campaign, I encourage you to take a couple of minutes to have a look. https://www.bethatteacher.gov.au/
2023 Mayoral Achievement Awards
Congratulations to Chase (Year 6RM) who was recognised by our Year 6 Cohort and Staff in this year’s Mayoral Achievement Awards. Chase was nominated for the Mayoral Achievement Award for showing his resilience and determination this year. Chase has faced some struggles with his health but has continued to show a positive attitude and get back to school and be with his friends. He is a great role model to those around him and is looked up to by peers and our younger student body. He enjoys getting outside and kicking the ball around and has developed good sportsmanship and encourages his peers at all times. He is well deserving of this award and as he continues to apply effort in the classroom, demonstrates great potential. Thank you to Mr Rogers for attending and supporting Chase and his family at this important occasion.
Brainchild Foundation Fundraiser:
Approx. $900 RAISED so far.
Thank you everyone for your collective efforts with our student council fundraiser for the Brainchild Foundation. The brightness on display across the two Fridays, represented our commitment to raising awareness and support for such a wonderful foundation which provides such needed support for families being significantly challenged and in need of love, care and compassion. Thank you everyone for your efforts.
AAC Presentation: Congratulations to Ms Danielle Chapman and Ms Annabell Tonkin
Last Thursday evening, Ms Chapman and Ms Tonkin (after two big days of camp as well!) presented a talk about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) at PLACE. They spoke about their personal journeys as well as their experience and the development of AAC at Rangeville.
PLACE is an event for professionals and community members involved in the education and children service industry to come together and share practice.
Ms Chapman and Ms Tonkin spoke with passion and enthusiasm about AAC and the students who have complex communication needs. They were really well received. Well done ladies.
Happy Tuckshop Day
Happy Tuckshop Day to our wonderful Nicky and her band of amazing volunteers. Our school is such a happier and nourished learning environment as a result of everything they do! Thank you everyone - you are the best!

Student Wellbeing Program
Hello, my name is Ms Catrina and I am the Student Wellbeing Social Worker at Rangeville State School every Thursday and Friday.
What is the Student Wellbeing program?
It is an initiative that sees Social Workers employed in schools to provide emotional support, counselling and skill building with children.
What can a Student Wellbeing Social Worker do?
A Student Wellbeing Social Worker can work with children who experience social and emotional challenges that might interfere with their learning in the classroom or their relationships at school.
Some common issues I see include anxiety, self-esteem issues, fears, relationship challenges, difficulties with managing emotions, low mood (sadness) or any issue that might be causing a student distress or problems. Our goal is to help students (and families) create fulfilling and rich lives for themselves, now and in the future.
How can you arrange to see me?
If your child would like to see me, or you think it would be helpful, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher regarding making a referral. Once I’ve received this, I will then reach out to you and your child to make an appointment time.

Year 5 Emu Gully Camp
Our Emu Gully Experience
Camp is all about teamwork and encouraging each other and that’s why our favourite activities were ‘The Mud Pit’, the ‘Tunnel Rats of Vietnam’ and finally the ‘Bridge Over The River Kwai’ because these activities needed teamwork, helping others and encouragement.
There were some activities that were difficult and included teamwork and listening. These activities were ‘The Duck Boards’ and the ‘Commando cable crossing’. It was difficult because we didn’t all listen to each other but eventually we listened and used teamwork and we were the closest team to finish in the ‘Duck Boards’.
We learnt that we needed to listen, and encourage each other and that being a leader is about teamwork and listening. We learnt another lesson ‘if you think you can or you think you can’t your probably right’ and sometimes a leader needs to stand back and watch.
Leadership was shown by everyone who took part in the Emu Gully experience.

Upcoming: Information Sessions for Parents – PBL (Behaviour)
We are excited to announce upcoming information sessions on key aspects of PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning), which is an essential part of our curriculum at Rangeville State School. These free sessions will be held twice a term, on Tuesday afternoons in week 5 and 9, from 2:15-2:45pm (see dates below).
Our focus during these sessions is to share the principles of each topic based on research, show how the school implement these practices, reflect on ways this can be adapted to home, and allow for question-and-answer time.
Please email Nelson McGrath nemcg0@eq.edu.au if you are interested in attending any of the sessions or if you have any further questions.
Date | Term and Week | Topic |
31/10/23 | Term 4, Week 5 | Corrective Strategies |
28/11/23 | Term 4, Week 9 | Bullying |
We look forward to seeing you at these sessions, and thank you for your ongoing support.
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Please see the attached factsheet for more information.

Fire and emergency safety
With all the fires around at the moment and educators noticing children talking about them we did a focus this week on fire safety and emergency services. Children had many activities available to them including drawing a sketch of their house and marking out where their family meeting area is and where their emergency evacuation points are in their home. We then spoke about and carried out our emergency evacuation procedures to which all children did a great job. Children wrote lists of what an emergency bag would look like if they were being evacuated due to fire, flood or natural disaster. Children put on a bit of a performance of how to call 000 for different scenarios. Educators also had first aid and CPR training at the service through the week so children asked questions about this and we did some pretend play on bandaging up and caring for others. Children created the safe 5 and we talked about feeling safe in different environments and what we can do if you are not feeling sure about something. On Thursday afternoon we will be having a visit from a member of the Rural Fire Service that is also one of our ROSHC parents! What a fabulous community we have, we are really looking forward to this visit.
New enrolments or updating enrolment
If you are needing to enrol a child for 2024 for before/after or vacation care please send our office an email at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we will send you our enrolment forms, parent handbook, children’s handbook and the booking app xplor information. If any of your personal information has changed please email all changes through and we will update them in our system.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
If your child has misplaced any personal items, we kindly ask you to check their classrooms or stop by our Lost and Found area, conveniently located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop. This is where we gather and keep items that might have been left behind in classrooms, on the playground, or elsewhere around the school.
Right now, our Lost and Found is brimming with lunchboxes and water bottles, so if your child is missing any of these, we encourage you to have a quick look there. For more precious items like glasses and watches, our administration office is the place to go, as we securely store them there.
Labeling your child's belongings with their name and class can be a tremendous help in reuniting lost items with their owners. Please keep in mind that any unclaimed items at the end of each term will be collected and removed. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
