Semester Two EALD Parent Teacher Interviews
Last Tuesday, in conjunction with Translating and Interpreting Services we held 14 Parent Teacher Interviews for our Kurdish Kurmanji, Mandarin, Sinhalalese and Kinyarwanda (Rwandan) speaking families. This was the first time we had undertaken this important opportunity and our families and staff were appreciative of this opportunity to connect and discuss their child’s progress. Thank you to Mrs Allen and Mrs Williams for organising this important opportunity enabling all of our families and staff an opportunity to discuss their child's progress.
Community Walk to School Bus
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our wonderful community and dedicated staff for their support of our Community Walk to School Bus initiative for this week while a large majority of South Street was closed. The program not only eased traffic congestion but also promoted community safety and health benefits. With designated collection points and safe routes, our families and students enjoyed a secure and stress-free journey to school. Thank you for making this program a great success!
Democracy Sausage Sizzle
A big shout-out to our Rangeville State School P&C, staff, and dedicated volunteers for a fantastic Democracy Sausage Sizzle during the weekend's referendum. Your hard work and community spirit truly made a difference! Thank you.

Communication Prodecures in Emergencies
From the beginning of Term 4, we are trailing new communication procedures during emergencies at Rangeville State School. When we enter into a lockdown, emergency evacuation or drill, you will receive an SMS notification from the school. It is important that during a lockdown or emergency evacuation that you do not contact the school as phone lines need to remain open for emergency services. When the threat or drill has passed, you will receive an all-clear SMS notification from the school.
Student Wellbeing Program
Hello, my name is Ms Catrina and I am the Student Wellbeing Social Worker at Rangeville State School every Thursday and Friday.
What is the Student Wellbeing program?
It is an initiative that sees Social Workers employed in schools to provide emotional support, counselling and skill building with children.
What can a Student Wellbeing Social Worker do?
A Student Wellbeing Social Worker can work with children who experience social and emotional challenges that might interfere with their learning in the classroom or their relationships at school.
Some common issues I see include anxiety, self-esteem issues, fears, relationship challenges, difficulties with managing emotions, low mood (sadness) or any issue that might be causing a student distress or problems. Our goal is to help students (and families) create fulfilling and rich lives for themselves, now and in the future.
How can you arrange to see me?
If your child would like to see me, or you think it would be helpful, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher regarding making a referral. Once I’ve received this, I will then reach out to you and your child to make an appointment time.

Upcoming: Information Sessions for Parents – PBL (Behaviour)
We are excited to announce upcoming information sessions on key aspects of PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning), which is an essential part of our curriculum at Rangeville State School. These free sessions will be held twice a term, on Tuesday afternoons in week 5 and 9, from 2:15-2:45pm (see dates below).
Our focus during these sessions is to share the principles of each topic based on research, show how the school implement these practices, reflect on ways this can be adapted to home, and allow for question-and-answer time.
Please email Nelson McGrath nemcg0@eq.edu.au if you are interested in attending any of the sessions or if you have any further questions.
Date | Term and Week | Topic |
31/10/23 | Term 4, Week 5 | Corrective Strategies |
28/11/23 | Term 4, Week 9 | Bullying |
We look forward to seeing you at these sessions, and thank you for your ongoing support.
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Please see the attached factsheet for more information.

Rangeville State School P&C Association Outside School Hours Care (ROSHC)
Wellbeing at ROSHC
We have been looking into different wellbeing activities at ROSHC with the children and the importance of our wellbeing. A strong sense of wellbeing allows children and young people to thrive and is central to belonging, being and becoming. Wellbeing incorporates both physical and psychological aspects and without a strong sense of wellbeing it is difficult to have a sense of belonging, to trust others and feel confident in being, and to optimistically engage in experiences that contribute to becoming. Wellbeing includes good physical health, feelings of happiness, satisfaction and successful social functioning. It influences the way children and young people interact in their environments. A strong sense of wellbeing provides children and young people with confidence and optimism, which maximises their potential. It encourages the development of children and young people’s innate exploratory drive, a sense of agency and a desire to interact with responsive others. Wellbeing is correlated with resilience, providing children and young people with the capacity to cope with day-to-day stress and challenges. Managing emotions, developing self-regulation and building perseverance and persistence are all parts of developing executive function in the brain. This all comes from My Time Our Place that we have to follow in our programming, Outcome 3: Children and young people have a strong sense of wellbeing.
National Children’s Week
Next week at roshc we will be doing activities to recognise and celebrate National Children’s Week. The Children’s Week National Theme for 2023 is based on UNCRC Article 31: Children have the right to relax, play and take part in activities they enjoy.
Children’s Week 2023 is held between 21st October – 29th October 2023.
Absentees during the term
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
If your child has misplaced any personal items, we kindly ask you to check their classrooms or stop by our Lost and Found area, conveniently located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop. This is where we gather and keep items that might have been left behind in classrooms, on the playground, or elsewhere around the school.
Right now, our Lost and Found is brimming with lunchboxes and water bottles, so if your child is missing any of these, we encourage you to have a quick look there. For more precious items like glasses and watches, our administration office is the place to go, as we securely store them there.
Labeling your child's belongings with their name and class can be a tremendous help in reuniting lost items with their owners. Please keep in mind that any unclaimed items at the end of each term will be collected and removed. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

This way, we can ensure your information is current and keep you in the loop. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
