Principal's News
Celebrating a Wonderful Week of Read, Grow, and Inspire at Book Week 2023!
We are thrilled to recap the enchanting 2023 Book Week activities that brought our school community together for a celebration of literature, imagination, and shared moments. The school library transformed into a haven for parents and children during a twilight evening, where stories came to life amid a backdrop of cozy reading corners and twinkling lights.
Throughout the week, the entire school delighted in engaging activities such as the lively "Find a Mini Book" hunt, the vibrant Colouring in Competition, and the heart-warming Daily Book Swap. The crowning jewel was the "Write a Book in a Week" class project, fostering creativity and teamwork.
As the week unfolded, we were treated to a spectacular Book Week Dress Up Parade, where characters leapt from the pages and into our school, a true carnival of literary imagination.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated community for their unwavering support, making Book Week a resounding success. Special thanks to Mrs. Horncy, Mrs. Williams, and Mrs. Mohr for orchestrating a seamless week of literary magic. A shoutout to Nicky and our tuckshop volunteers for their crucial role in supporting this event.
And to our brilliant students, your enthusiasm for all things book-related and your wholehearted participation in the activities fill us with pride. Your love for reading is a beacon of inspiration for us all.
Let's carry this literary spirit forward, nurturing the joy of reading and storytelling throughout the year. Here's to the pages we've turned and the stories yet to be discovered!
Triumphant Results at Darling Downs Athletics Trials!
Let's applaud our 12 exceptional students for their performances at the recent Darling Downs Athletics Trials. Their sportsmanship and dedication shone brightly throughout the day. A special shoutout to Diego and Sam, securing victories and placements in their respective events. Next year, as 10-year-olds, they'll surely represent Darling Downs at State Athletics Trials. A resounding cheer for Ava and William, securing wins and spots at the State Athletics Carnival in Brisbane this October. Your achievements inspire us all!

"Phones Away All Day" Reminder
Just a friendly reminder to all students: our "Phones Away All Day" policy is in effect. If you bring your mobile phone to school, you are expected to drop it off at the office upon arrival. Sign it in, and retrieve it at day's end. Remember, keep it off until you're outside school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation!
Uniform and Grooming Guidelines: A Gentle Reminder
As part of our commitment to a focused, positive and safe learning environment, students are reminded to adhere to the Rangeville State School Student Code of Conduct. This entails wearing our correct school uniform with pride. Jewellery is limited to medical alerts, stud earrings, sleepers, and watches. Nail polish is to be removed, and hair tied if it reaches the collar. Please note our "No Hat - No Play" policy; wear a wide-brimmed hat while playing in the playground. Thank you for helping us maintain our positive school atmosphere!

Jazz on The Range
On Saturday the 12th of August our Rangeville Stage Band performed for Jazz on The Range. This is an annual event that usually features local high school bands and is headlined by Cool Night Big Band. Our band is only the 2nd primary school aged band to take part and we performed in between Concordia College and Downlands College to a very appreciative audience. Our program of six items featured solos from each member of the band and concluded with a rocking version of Enter Sandman.

Brisbane Excursion
The Year 6 excursion was an amazing experience that I am not in a rush to forget. The Spark Lab and Chinese lunch were by far the best parts. The Spark Lab is a fun and experimental hands on area for all ages. The lunch was the best in my opinion, full of delicious food and the best tea ever.
I honestly wish I could do this every year.

Help kids walk safely to school
Queensland Road Safety Week is on 21-25 August. Queensland Walks has developed a simple road safety campaign with a focus on safety for kids walking to school, all thanks to a Community Road Safety Grant through the Department of Transport and Main Roads. You can find out more information about the campaign here: https://queenslandwalks.org.au/the-other-side/
Solid Pathways - STEM University Experience Day
Our Solid Pathways-Stem team were invited to attend a full day of STEM experiences at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to meet their online teachers and peers, engage in hands-on learning experiences and to gain an insight into university life. The students were engaged in a physics challenge, making a closed circuit with potatoes to light a bulb. They then tried their hands at encoding and decoding in the engineering department with Lego. This sent their maths brains alight and mine in melt-down. The afternoon session involved exploring the amazing Maker Space and the endless possibilities of 3D Printing. Our Solid Pathways students represented our school with pride and demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm for active participation and team work.

Upcoming: Information Sessions for Parents – PBL (Behaviour)
We are excited to announce upcoming information sessions on key aspects of PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning), which is an essential part of our curriculum at Rangeville State School. These free sessions will be held twice a term, on Tuesday afternoons in week 5 and 9, from 2:15-2:45pm (see dates below).
Our focus during these sessions is to share the principles of each topic based on research, show how the school implement these practices, reflect on ways this can be adapted to home, and allow for question-and-answer time.
Please email Nelson McGrath nemcg0@eq.edu.au if you are interested in attending any of the sessions or if you have any further questions.
Date | Term and Week | Topic |
31/10/23 | Term 4, Week 5 | Corrective Strategies |
28/11/23 | Term 4, Week 9 | Bullying |
We look forward to seeing you at these sessions, and thank you for your ongoing support.
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Please see the attached factsheet for more information.

Bush Tucker Garden
The children have been doing a wonderful job of keeping our Bush tucker garden looking fabulous. If you ever have time, please feel free to come and check it out the children are very proud of the work they do in there. They have been learning about the types of plants that are in there and what they can be used for like the Bush Basil (aka. Native Coleus, Mountain Plectranthus, Sticky Cockspur) was traditionally used as a medicinal and ceremonial herb. You can use this herb for scattering fresh leaves on pizza or caprese salad, or toss small amounts into a blender with pine nuts and olive oil for a fragrant, homemade pesto. Cinnamon Myrtle (aka. Carrol, Grey Myrtle, Ironwood, Neverbreak, Australian Lancewood) is a native hardwood that was popularised as a bushfood in the late 1980s. Its leaves give off a cinnamon fragrance when rubbed or crushed, much like the leaves of the curry plant and kaffir lime. Cinnamon Myrtle leaves may be used in place of conventional cinnamon spice to flavour curries, stews, soups, roasts, ribs and sauces. In desserts, they add a warm, earthy flavour to pies, biscuits, sweets, pastries and slices. They may also be used fresh or dried, steeped in hot water, to make a herbal tea. The Bush Tucker Garden has been used as a place of peace when children just want somewhere quiet to sit and a space used for learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It really is a wonderful space that is flourishing.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
As the winter season approaches, we often come across an abundance of abandoned jumpers and warm clothes. If your child has misplaced any personal items, we kindly request that you check their classrooms or visit our designated Lost and Found area (located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop). This is where we collect and store items that have been left behind in classrooms, playgrounds and other areas of the school.
Currently, our Lost and Found area is populated with a considerable number of lunchboxes and water bottles. If your child happens to be missing any of these items, we encourage you to take a moment to search for them there. For more valuable items such as glasses and watches, you can visit the administration office, where we hold these items securely.
We encourage you to clearly label your child's items with their name and class. This simple measure greatly aids in identifying lost items. Please note that at the end of each term, any remaining unclaimed items will be collected and removed.
