Principal's News
Welcome back to all Rangeville families and our new families from the 6 students who began with us this term. We know that you are going to love being part of the Rangeville family and watching your children Learn, Achieve and Grow every day. There certainly has been a buzz throughout our school this week and this has been amplified by the Queensland Conservatoriums, Griffith University two day music workshop for our instrumental music program and our significant NAIDOC Week celebrations for all.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
We are thrilled to share the incredible highlights of our recent NAIDOC Week celebrations. It was a week filled with pride, cultural appreciation, and engaging activities that left a lasting impact on our school community.
Our student leaders deserve a special round of applause for their outstanding efforts in organising and coordinating various lunchtime activities throughout the week and delivering a significant NAIDOC Parade today. Their creativity and dedication ensured that each event provided a meaningful experience for everyone involved and delivered connection and history for all.
Thank you to our Centenary Heights State High School leaders who shared their cultural knowledge and journesy with us on Tuesday afternoon. You are our future leaders within our immediate and wider community.
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miss Courtney and Mrs Williams for their exceptional work in planning and running the NAIDOC Week celebrations. Their commitment to honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples was truly commendable.
Today, our school community came together for the NAIDOC Week Parade, and we are immensely grateful for your commitment and involvement. It was a truly memorable experience as we were treated to a mesmerising performance by an incredible Aboriginal Dance Troupe. Their educational and enjoyable presentation left us all with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture.
We take this opportunity to thank our school community for their enthusiastic participation and support throughout NAIDOC Week. Your involvement contributed to the success of the celebrations and reinforced our commitment to embracing diversity and fostering inclusivity within our school.
Let us continue to honour and celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples beyond NAIDOC Week, and work together to create a more equitable and inclusive society now and into the future.
Semester One 2023 Achievements
Our School Improvement Agenda is to improve the following areas:
- Quality Teaching and Learning with a precise focus on Reading
- Wellbeing: a whole school approach to supporting student’ engagement, wellbeing and mental health.
In Semester One 2023 our collective achievements are as follows.
Congratulations to all of our students, staff and community for their efforts last Semester. We are excited by the continuing in-depth plans that have been put in place to support all of our students reach our targets by the end of this year.
Congratulations to our Preps who also celebrated their first 100 days of school today. They will all look fantastic in their costumes next Monday celebrating what they will be when they grow up!
Queensland Conservatoriums, Griffith University Two Day Collaboration
WOW what a continued privilege it has been to host the Queensland Conservatoriums, Griffith University for the last two days as they have supported our Instrumental Music Program and the students and staffs personal and collective development. This collaboration has been made possible again by our wonderful P&C. The buzz and excitement that has been evident from these intensive workshops has been palpable – our students and staff have significantly benefited from this amazing opportunity, and we cannot wait to see the end results at tonight’s concert. Well done to Mr Henry, Mrs Johansen, Mrs Jensen and Mr Smith for their enthusiasm, expertise and organisation of such a significant program and we look forward to continuing the relationship with the Queensland Conservatoriums, Griffith University next year.
Rangeville P&C – Providing for the greater Rangeville Community
Thank you to our Rangeville P&C for their contributions and support of the learning and facilities of our wonderful school.
Our students and community returned to see the Year 6 Area finished and looking fabulous for our Year 6 students and staff to access during learning time and eating times. The kids faces and pride in the area ensured the tick of approval was immediately given! Thank you to our P&C for their significant financial contribution enabling this area to be refurbished.
Through the P&C Teacher Grants Process, the P&C have enabled:
- The Year 3 Chess Activity to be subsidised by $1,000 hence a reduced invoice for our families this term.
- The Rep Club to continue to beautify and provide engaging environmental and sustainable learning for our students through a $2,000 donation.
- The Prep Sensory Garden will also commence because of the $2,000 P&C Teacher Grant donation. We look forward to this area coming to life in the near future.
- Year 2 Little Scribe Activity will be run this term and this activity is occurring through the P&C contribution of $1,500 to enable our Year 2 students to work with an external author for part of each day for an entire week.
Thank you to our P&C for their contribution and support of our students learning, engagement and wellbeing.
Year 6 Area Learning and Eating Area
Book Week 2023: Dates are 21st-25th August.
Book Week Coordinators: Mrs Mohr, Mrs Smiddy, Miss Tonkin, Mrs Horncy
Book Week Parade: 25th August - Parents and Grandparents welcome to attend.
Some activities we have planned to incorporate throughout the week:
- Book swap: Children bring in books from home and swap these for ones they haven’t read
- Library Open Night: families come to school to read a bedtime story together
- Book Hunt: We hide mini books around the school for children to find and they win a prize
- Book Week Parade: Children dress up as a character from a book
- Decorating the library to support the ‘Read Grow Inspire’ theme
- Write a Book in a Day Challenge: Classes are given a list of words to incorporate into a story and they have a week to write and illustrate a story, these are published and displayed in our library This year will include a list of words related to the theme.
We would love any parent volunteers to help run the Book Swap before school and/or at morning tea (if both timeslots are possible).
This would include setting up tables with books and being there to support students to swap books. This is heaps of fun and was one of the most popular activities last year. The stall would be open from 8:30-8:45am (setup from 8:20am) and if volunteers were available during morning tea 11:10-11:30am.

NAIDOC Week 2023 Celebrations
We have had a fantastic Week 1 of Term 3 celebrating our first nations students. For NAIDOC week there have been fun and engaging activities each day for students to enjoy including; temporary tattoos, creating headbands, dot painting of wooden boomerangs and indigenous animals, beading making bracelets, necklaces and key rings. In PE lessons this week students have been learning how to play Traditional Indigenous games with Mr Morris. Each of the activities were thoroughly enjoyed by all students.
On Tuesday we had an amazing culture chat with the Robinson family. Bo, Jax, Ruby, Cliff, Ryder, Jodie and Rosie shared teachings of indigenous plants and animals, stories from their culture and photographs of their hometowns with all our indigenous students. Thank you to the Robinson family for the wonderful cultural experience.
Our NAIDOC parade run by Miss Lindgren and our Year 6 Indigenous students was a great success! Thank you to all the Year 4, 5 and 6 students who shared and spoke on parade about their culture. Speaking in front of the whole school takes a lot of courage and all students should be proud of themselves. Mura Biri Gururu Aboriginal dancers shared cultural stories, indigenous teachings and language through captivating dance and music performances.
Congratulations to the winners of our NAIDOC colouring in competition! First prize received an indigenous shirt, second prize received an indigenous themed basketball and third prize winners were given a colouring in book and a pack of texters.
Thank you everyone for your support.

Simiarly if your child is leaving early, you must sign them out at the Student Services window and accompany them from the school grounds. Thank you for your understanding.

QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Please see the attached factsheet for more information.

Vacation Care
Well, another vacation care has been and gone and the days were all very different filled with activities planed and run by the educators and of course children were given many opportunities to plan and run activities as well. Activities all related to the program theme of the day which the children were involved in helping to create. Popular activities included going to the cinema to see the movie Elemental, incursion of Bazil Grumble drama show put on by ROSHC children, just dance on the projector in the hall, hill obstacle course, cricket on the oval, helping to make the meals for the day, face painting, scavenger hunt, Oreo challenge, volcanoes in the sandpit, Boomerang back toy, creating marble craft, piecing pots back together, science experiments and creative media.
We also celebrated NAIDOC week last Wednesday with the children. To mark NAIDOC week, an important moment of celebration and reflection on Indigenous culture and their lasting impact on modern Australia was undertaken. To do this our focus was around traditional tools, foods and practices that shaped the communities around us. Children made some wattle seed biscuits for afternoon tea using traditional ingredients. Wattle seed comes from native wattles and is a highly nutritious and flavourful source of food that was used in traditional Indigenous cooking. It has a very unique flavour and smell that intrigued a lot of the children. The children were so excited about cooking that they decided to cook the damper for lunch as well to go with the Bush tomato soup. Along with cooking, children also created a banner that went with this years NAIDOC theme ‘For Our Elders’. This week we will be having a visit from Alex, an Aboriginal Elder. He will be joining us for after school care to talk about some Dream Time stories, his paintings, do some colouring of Aboriginal pictures with the children and go through the Bush Tucker Garden with the children. He is keen to see how far it has come as he helped us develop and choose the plants for the garden in 2021. We always look forward to his visits at ROSHC.
Absentees during the term
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
As the winter season approaches, we often come across an abundance of abandoned jumpers and warm clothes. If your child has misplaced any personal items, we kindly request that you check their classrooms or visit our designated Lost and Found area (located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop). This is where we collect and store items that have been left behind in classrooms, playgrounds and other areas of the school.
Currently, our Lost and Found area is populated with a considerable number of lunchboxes and water bottles. If your child happens to be missing any of these items, we encourage you to take a moment to search for them there. For more valuable items such as glasses and watches, you can visit the administration office, where we hold these items securely.
We encourage you to clearly label your child's items with their name and class. This simple measure greatly aids in identifying lost items. Please note that at the end of each term, any remaining unclaimed items will be collected and removed.
