News from the Community
Principal's News
What a wonderful fortnight we have had at Rangeville. Engagement, learning and fun has filled our days and nights.
Student Council Disco
Thank you to our whole school community for your support of the Year Six Student Council Committee major fundraiser – the celebrity disco. The night was filled with fun, laughter, dancing and many excitable screams!! Thank you to our P&C for their generous support and efforts with the sausage sizzle. Thank you to our Year 6 Team and all staff for their support of the Student Council with the planning, running and support of Student Council Disco. It was a fabulous evening and raised approximately $3500 for our Student Councils projects this year.
Triple P Free Seminars
Thank you to our families who attended the two Triple P courses offered free of charge this Tuesday and Wednesday evenings focused on Raising Resilient Children and Helping your Child or Teenager Prevent and Cope with Anxiety. Both of the presentations were part of a wider State Government response to Cyberbullying. The nights provided practical tips and techniques and age-appropriate strategies and advice to support families to overcome anxiety, better manage challenges such as cyberbullying, staying safe and manage risks online and handling uncomfortable emotions in a healthy way. All of the information also aligned beautifully with the practical and explicit social and emotional learning that is occurring within our classrooms aligned to our EPBL maturing agenda. This was confirming and reassuring for all involved.
Lest We Forget: ANZAC Day Parade
Congratulations to our entire school community for the respect displayed in the act of remembrance during our recent moving ANZAC day service.
This year our service focused on the Centenary of Legacy and our students read through the story of ANZAC Ted.
Congratulations to our students – wreath layers, student leaders, musicians, Voices Choir and their respective conductors, Mrs Hagley and Mr Henry for all of their efforts in preparation and delivery of this wonderful service.
Attendance Paper Clip Chains and Positive Class Rewards
Thank you to our families for their continued support in ensuing our students are minimising their lost days of learning this year. We are currently sitting at 92.8% attendance, just below our goal of 94%
This term, our students will have noticed our school’s positive, ramped-up focus on attendance. We have an Attendance Team at Rangeville and they have been establishing some exciting and rewarding initiatives to encourage greater attendance across our school.
Some of our proactive strategies are:
- Individual Attendance Acknowledgement:
- End of Term 95% and 100% Attendance certificates & collectable bag tags, presented at parades.
- End of Year Attendance Award, presented to the student/s with the highest attendance for the year.
- Class Attendance Acknowledgement:
- Attendance Chain. This has been designed to recognise days of 95% and 100% attendance in each class. When all students are present (this includes school approved absences like Sport, Camp, Eisteddfod etc), 2x paperclips are added to the chain. If one student is absent (95% attendance), 1x paperclip is added to the chain. The more paperclips achieved, the closer to rewards the class becomes.
- Cohort Attendance:
- Display Thermometers will be displayed around the school monitoring year level attendance. At the end of each term, the year level with the highest attendance will all enjoy a pizza party.
To support the introduction of our proactive initiatives, a PowerPoint presentation has been shown to the classes.
2024 Prep Information Night
On Wednesday evening we welcomed almost 50 new and current parents to our 2024 Prep Information Night. This evening forms one of our early transition activities for our future Prep students and their families. Collectively, we enjoyed a tour of the school and a conversation session led by our wonderful Prep teachers. Enrolments (catchment and out of catchment) for 2024 Prep are certainly filling fast (we currently have 64 enrolment forms completed!) and I encourage all current and future families to begin the enrolment process as soon as possible.
Did you know that we have made our enrolment process easier? Families can now complete the main enrolment form online. Please click here to complete and submit the online enrolment form: https://eq.sobs.com.au/en/parent.php?schoolid=70862

Music News
On Tuesday this week we welcomed Timothy Sherlock to workshop with our choirs along with our accompanist Pamela Duane. Timothy has a wealth of experience in working with choral groups of all ages and experience and is a regular conductor at the highly successful State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP). He worked with our Year 4 choir, 5/6 choir and small group choir on the music that they will be performing this weekend at the Toowoomba Eisteddfod. He worked on developing the choral sound of our singers and provided lots of tips and tricks. The 5/6 choir and small group choir then performed that evening at Centenary Heights State High School along with the Middle Ridge Senior choir and the choirs from CHSHS. It was an amazing evening of choral music and if that performance is an indication of how our choirs will perform this weekend, we are in for a real treat of fantastic choir singing. We wish all our choirs the very best in their performances!
Toowoomba Eisteddfod
The Toowoomba Eisteddfod started on Thursday and our talented musicians are already taking part. Congratulations to Rosemary (Year 1) who placed second in the Year 3 and under Vocal Solo – what a fantastic result considering she was competing against students much older than her! If you child is taking part in the Eisteddfod please let Mr Henry know by email (mhenr36@eq.edu.au) so that we can acknowledge their efforts in the newsletter.
Darling Downs Cross Country Trials
On Friday of last week we had 36 students represent our school at the annual Range Zone Cross Country trials at Kearney Springs. It was an early start with students arriving at school just after 7:00am to catch the bus across to the venue. A big thank you to our families and Mrs Murphy (on her birthday) for their fantastic support for the morning.
Our students did a great job and competed hard with some outstanding results.
We have 5 students that have been selected to attend the Darling Downs Trials; Georgia, Larni, Skyla, Felix and Ryder.
The Darling Downs Trials will be held on Tuesday 16 May. Best wishes to those students at the next level of competition.
School Disco
Our ‘Celebrity’ school disco on Thursday the 27th of April was great fun! Thank you to all families who attended. It was wonderful seeing everybody dancing the night away and enjoying themselves. Thank you also to our staff for their attendance and help on the night and the P&C for supporting the event and generously donating the proceeds of their sausage sizzle to the Student Council. The DJ on the night was ‘Krazy Kevin’. Kevin is available to hire for a variety of events. You can find him on Facebook, or contact him on 0459 336 832.
Upcoming: Information Sessions for Parents – PBL (Behaviour)

These free sessions will be held twice a term, on Tuesday afternoons in week 5 and 9, from 2:15-2:45pm (see dates below).
Our focus during these sessions is to share the principles of each topic based on research, show how the school implement these practices, reflect on ways this can be adapted to home, and allow for question-and-answer time.
Please email Nelson McGrath nemcg0@eq.edu.au if you are interested in attending any of the sessions or if you have any further questions.

Allied Health
Does your student access therapy during school hours?
Do you need to arrive late or leave early to attend a therapy appointment?
Has the therapy appointment time changed since you notified us at the start of the year?
Please notify the office of any changes to therapy times or ask for a 2023 Allied Health Professional Information form as soon as possible.
Online Services Consent Form 2023
At our school, we are dedicated to providing the best possible learning experience for your child. To achieve this, we use a variety of tools and resources, including online services hosted and managed outside of the Department of Education network.
These services, such as interactive learning sites and games, online collaboration and communication tools, and learning management systems, are delivered over the internet and require internet connectivity. We also utilize web-based publishing and design tools, as well as file storage and collaboration services.
If you have an active QParents account, you should have received an Online Services Consent Form 2023 via QParents for your child at the end of last term. Please be reminded to complete this form as soon as possible, as it allows for your child to access computer programs and internet resources while at school.
If you do not have access to QParents, a copy of the form was sent home with your student at the end of last term. Please review, sign and return it to the school office at your earliest convenience. If you have misplaced the form, a copy is available below and at the administration office.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us provide the best possible learning experience for your child.
Book Fair
Save the Date: May 18 to May 23
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with your child's school.
QParents provides secure, online access to student information such as:
- attendance details
- consent forms
- payment of invoices
- payment history
- behaviour
- report cards and assessment dates
- upcoming events
- timetables
- student photo
In addition to the information provided, it's important to note that the QParents portal only sends invoices to the parent/carer who is responsible for 100% of the student's school fees. This means that if there are multiple parents or carers who share responsibility for fees, only one of them will receive the invoice through the portal. It's important for parents and carers to communicate and coordinate payment arrangements if they are sharing the responsibility for fees.
We encourage you to register for QParents. To do this, simply express your interest by emailing mllew16@eq.edu.au or by phoning 4617 733 and Mrs Llewellyn will email you an invitation to register (which includes your log-in code) and your childs unique EQID. Please see the attached factsheet for more information.

Sustainability projects
At ROSHC we have been focusing on sustainable practices and how to embed them into our service. This focus came about from conversations that were had with the children around World Earth Day. It is also an important part of our framework that we follow for all areas of programming. ‘Economic sustainability refers to practices that support economic development without negatively impacting the other dimensions. This includes a focus on fair and equitable access to resources, conserving resources and reducing consumption and waste.’ With this statement in mind from the new My Time Our Place framework, educators took to the children questions about what we already do and what further things we can do as service to provide more sustainable practices. Worm farm and composting has been a big one the children have been looking in to and gathering information on. We already use our different coloured bins for different recycled materials, but the children have added an only paper bin to the room that will be taken to the school’s big yellow recycle bin. Our gardens produce vegetables and eventually fruits that are and can be used in our kitchen or passed onto our ROSHC families. Children have done up a sustainability vision board and we hope that we can continue to build this wall with pledges and further ideas for sustainable practices. Please if you would like to give any input into this project, we will be happy to hear them.
Cooking class
The children have been enjoying having cooking classes in the room once a week. They are baking things like cakes, muffins, slices and biscuits. The learning they get from reading instructions and having to follow the steps of the recipe making sure they measure all ingredients properly to ensure the product turns out correctly. They also have to work out if the recipe needs to be doubled, tripled or more to feed all the children that afternoon. So along with it being fun they are learning so much as well. We encourage all children to have a go and have had many children take part, they also have a lot of input into the menus for the term which helps Bec out a lot. If you have any recipes or food suggestions you wish to share, please let us know we value community input into our service.
Absentees
If you have a booking at the service and your child goes home early from school, is absent or not coming for either BSC or ASC please let us know via your xplor app (preferred option) or email roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Lost Property
We have a designated Lost and Found area located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop. This is where we collect and store items that have been left behind in classrooms, playgrounds and other areas of the school.
If your child has lost something, please encourage them to check the Lost and Found area as soon as possible. For more valuable items such as glasses and watches, you can visit the administration office, where we hold these items securely.
To ensure the quick and easy return of lost items, we encourage you to clearly label them with your child’s name and class. At the end of each term, any remaining items will be gathered up and removed.
Have your details changed?
Please email admin@rangevilless.eq.edu.au or phone 4617 7333 to let us know if your contact details (email address, mobile number or home address), family circumstances, work place or emergency contacts have recently changed so that we can update your details.
