Principal's News
Mrs Ann Giles – the face and voice of Rangeville State School
It is with great excitement (and sadness) that after 20 years at Rangeville State School, Mrs Ann Giles has announced that Friday 10 March will be her last day working at Rangeville before she embarks on transitioning from leave to retirement. Ann began her association with Rangeville firstly as a volunteer when her children, Sammy and Daniel began preschool in our current ECDP classrooms. Ann, became a valued P&C member, volunteering her time and energy as a ParentLink member and as a tuckshop volunteer and employee. On the 23 January 2006, Ann began her work in the front office of the school as an Administration Officer. In this time, she has seen so many changes to the curriculum, facilities, and personnel of our school. Her memory for a child’s face, name and or something quirky has ensured she is loved by all the Rangeville children. Ann’s love for Rangeville is evident every day through her positive and caring relationships with the children, staff and community of our great school – I often hear Mrs Giles on the phone replying “It’s not a problem” to ensure one of her students is helped or supported. There is nothing better than hearing a high schooler dropping into the office on their way home to say hi to Mrs Giles or seeing Ann looking through the Chronicle during the High School formal times and finding our kids and celebrating their journey from Primary school to young adults.
On behalf of the entire Rangeville State School community – our students, our families, and our staff, Thank you Mrs Giles for your love, care, support, dedication, and commitment to Rangeville State School. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you all the very best in your retirement.
Student Leadership Ceremony
Last Friday we had the pleasure of holding our annual Student Leader Induction. It is always an extremely privileged to be a part of this significant tradition of our great school.
The calibre of our selected student leaders is again measured by the calibre of students who have missed out on a recognised position. Congratulations to the following students who were recently awarded student leadership positions at our Leadership Badge Ceremony.

2023 School Leaders Induction
QParents
Thank you to the 71 percent of our school community who have joined and are active on QParents this year. QParents is our preferred way to pay for school excursions, upload student absences and receive student semester report cards and the best way to find out what is going on at Rangeville. Excitedly it is now becoming our preferred way of allowing our families to provide electronic consent for excursions and activities. Very soon, we won’t have to send written notes home and from a family’s point of view, no more finding notes at the bottom of school bags and remembering to send them back! If you are not part of this great initiative or have not received an invitation to join, please contact our QParent Administrator Mrs Marion Llewellyn on mllew16@eq.edu.au.
Our Daily Student Attendance
Congratulations to our school community, our current school attendance for the first 5 weeks of 2023 is sitting at 93.8% daily attendance. This is wonderful and ahead of our 92.3% percentage for the same period in 2021. Thank you to our families that are contacting our school on the student absence line: 4617 7366 or returning our absence text messages explaining the reasons for the students’ absence. This clarification is very important for our school records and the students’ records as well.

World Down Syndrome Day - Lots of Socks Campaign
We are excited to let you know that on Tuesday the 21st of March, we will be showing our support for World Down Syndrome Day by participating in the Lots of Socks campaign. This is a fun and meaningful way for our students to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and celebrate diversity and inclusion.
As a school, we encourage all students to participate in this wonderful activity by wearing their most colourful and fun socks to school on the day. There is no cost to participate, and all you need to do is to wear some different socks with your school shoes.
The Lots of Socks campaign is based on the idea that all types, shapes, and sizes of the same thing can be unique in their own way, and yet do the same thing. By wearing different socks, we hope to start a conversation about diversity, uniqueness, inclusion, and acceptance.
We believe that this is a great opportunity to teach our students about the importance of celebrating differences and promoting a culture of inclusivity. We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the campaign and why it is important to support it.
We look forward to seeing all the amazing socks on Tuesday the 21st March 2023.
Year 6 GRIP Leadership Conference
On Thursday the 23rd of February, the school captains, sports captains, music captains and student council representatives attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at Highfields. The conference was a great experience for all the leaders of our school. We learned how to be a good leader and to be a role model for younger students and the community. We learned how to launch new ideas to make our school a better place and include other people by using the four H words: Help out with the little things, Hear others' opinions, Happiness and Humility. The presenters kept the day engaging by adding in games and activities. The hosts were great, energetic speakers which made it fun. On behalf of all of the school leaders in attendance, we would like to thank the Rangeville staff, Mrs Briese and the P&C for helping to arrange this event. And special thanks to Mrs Hall for taking us on this great leadership excursion.

Harmony Day Celebrations 2023
On Friday 17 March 2023, we will be celebrating Harmony Day at Rangeville State School. As orange is the colour to represent Harmony Day, students are encouraged to wear something orange to school that day. Students can also choose to wear traditional/cultural costumes to school if they have one. As per tradition, there will be a special parade in the morning for all students.
For Grades 3 – 6 students, the school has made arrangements with professional cultural performers to present various cultural activities including traditional dances and musical performances. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to engage in and be part of this vibrant and colourful celebration. Cost per student : $7.00
Permission/payment information will be sent out next week.
If you or someone you know would like to perform at our Harmony Day parade, kindly contact Mrs Tay on (07) 4617 7333 or email her at stay4@eq.edu.au

Lost Property
Do you recognise any items pictured below? We have a designated Lost and Found area located on the verandah near the Uniform Shop. This is where we collect and store items that have been left behind in classrooms, playgrounds and other areas of the school.
If your child has lost something, please encourage them to check the Lost and Found area as soon as possible. For more valuable items such as glasses and watches, you can visit the administration office, where we hold these items securely.
To ensure the quick and easy return of lost items, we encourage you to please label them clearly with your child's name. This makes it much easier for us to identify the owner and return the item to them promptly.
Rangeville State School P&C Association Outside School Hours Care (ROSHC)
This fortnight at ROSHC we have been focusing on activities promoting Social and Emotional Wellbeing. One of the biggest practices we follow at ROSHC is evaluation for wellbeing and learning. Educators gather knowledge about children’s wellbeing and learning as they reflect and engage in processes such as scanning, monitoring, gathering and analysing information about how children feel and what children know, can do and understand. It is part of an ongoing cycle that includes planning, documenting and evaluating children’s wellbeing, development and learning. Children actively engage with the task of developing their self-identity while they are interacting with others. When children feel safe, secure and supported they grow in confidence to explore and learn. Wellbeing is correlated with resilience, providing children with the capacity to cope with day-to-day stress and challenges. The readiness to persevere when faced with unfamiliar and challenging situations creates the opportunity for success and achievement. Educators have been facilitating this through challenging and supporting children to engage and persevere, building upon and extending on children’s ideas, maintaining high expectations of each child’s capabilities, affirming children’s decision-making and efforts, welcoming children and families, sharing aspects of their culture and spiritual lives, discussing emotions, responses to events, emotional regulation and self-control. Children show that they are engaged in this learning when they share humour, happiness and satisfaction · celebrate their own efforts and achievements and those of others · increasingly co-operate and work collaboratively with others · enjoy moments of solitude · make choices, accept challenges, take considered risks, manage change and cope with frustrations · show self-regulation and manage their emotions in ways that reflect the feelings and needs of others · use moral reasoning to solve problems · assert their capabilities and independence while demonstrating increasing awareness of the needs and rights of others · recognise the contributions they make to shared projects and experiences and anticipate realistic consequences. If you would like to know more about this, please look into My Time Our Place; this is the platform of programming we use.

Keep an eye on your emails in the coming weeks as this will be where everyone will be notified that bookings are open and what will be on each day. Also please note that two public holidays fall in the middle of the two weeks break and we will not be open, this will be Friday 7th April and Monday 10th April.
