Principal's News
I truly am the luckiest Principal in QLD if not Australia and I just love my job. Thank you to our students, families, staff and community for such a wonderful start to the year. The enthusiasm, excitement and individual and collective achievements that are occurring in each and every classroom ensure each and every day is such a privilege.
When you combine dedicated, enthusiastic staff + committed and excited students + supportive and positive parents who value education you have the best recipe for success for all. This year, I know that we have the ingredients and mix just right to have our united Rangeville community Learning, Achieving and Growing every day.
Rangeville State School’s Strategic Agenda 2022-2025
This year we begin our second year of our Strategic Agenda. Our focus and explicit attention remain firmly with:
- Quality teaching & learning with a precise focus on reading;
- Wellbeing. A whole school approach to supporting students’ engagement, wellbeing and mental health.
Wellbeing
This year, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach to student engagement and learning is maturing. Tier 1, PBL will remain our core framework to support student wellbeing, engagement and behaviour and we will slowly introduce, extend and enhance additional Engament-PBL strategies as we move through the year.
Over the last two weeks we have been supporting our staff to develop their knowledge and skills in Social and Emotional Learning and providing them with practical and proactive activities and processes to support our students skills, and abilities to know when they are ready to learn physically, emotionally and in the right mindset as well as providing our teachers and students with a learning environment focused on building resilience, self-regulation, character strengths and learning stamina.
As a family, you can help your child/ren to see each day as opportunity to grow and improve. A positive mindset will help support an optimistic disposition and a ‘give-it-a-go attitude’ that is so critical to building resilience.
When your child/ren returns from school ask them one of these questions:
- What was one thing that made you smile today and why?
- What was one thing that made you feel proud of yourself today?
- What was one thing that you would like to learn more about in the next few days and why?
QParents
QParents is our preferred way to pay for school excursions, upload student absences, receive student semester report cards and the best way to find out what is going on at Rangeville. Excitedly it is now becoming our preferred way of allowing our families to provide electronic consent for excursions and activities. Very soon, we won’t have to send written notes home and from a family’s point of view, no more finding notes at the bottom of school bags and remembering to send them back! If you are not part of this great initiative or have not received an invitation to join, please contact our QParent Administrator Mrs Marion Llewellyn on mllew16@eq.edu.au. Families who have already used the electronic consent process for our Music Program Student Resource Scheme, have said it has been the easiest and safest approval process yet.
P&C Executive and General Membership
Rangeville is blessed with a unique and special opportunity in which our school is positively supported by a committed and vibrant P&C Association. Our wonderful P&C Association own and operate our 3 P&C Businesses: The Rangeville Outside Hours Care Service, our Tuckshop and our Uniform Shop. The successful and well-run businesses provide a wonderful service to our Rangeville community and any financial profits secured are directed to supporting your children Learn, Achieve and Grow every day.
This year, the majority of the Rangeville P&C Executive will be stepping down from their specific roles and we are therefore looking for a new team of executives to come on board and help guide our wonderful P&C into the future.
Without an approved and active P&C Executive, our P&C will potentially be placed into caretaker mode and this will mean that our three successful community focused businesses: The Rangeville Outside Hours Care Service, our Tuckshop and our Uniform Shop will not operate.
If you are interested in helping or learning more about of wonderful P&C, our P&C meets on the second Tuesday of the month and our next meeting is this coming Tuesday – 14 February 2023.
Formal Uniform Friday 17 February
Just a friendly reminder for all students in Years 1-6 to wear their formal school uniform on Friday 17 February for the School Leader Badge Presentation. We will gather on assembly to support and celebrate the achievements of our fellow classmates who will be receiving their School Leader badges.
Range Zone Swimming
We are excited to announce that 43 of our students will be competing in the Range Zone Swimming Carnival on Monday. This event is a great opportunity for our talented swimmers to showcase their skills and represent our school with pride.
Our swimmers have been training hard in preparation for these trials. We wish them all the very best for Monday and look forward to hearing about their successes.

NAPLAN
Did you know NAPLAN is moving to Term 1? The new NAPLAN testing window for 2023 is now from 15-27 March.
This means the results will be in the hands of our teachers earlier in the year to inform teaching and learning programs throughout the rest of the school year.
At Rangeville State School, we see NAPLAN as an opportunity for students to ‘show what they know’ rather than a high stress/high stakes assessment piece. It will also give teachers more time to better assess what support students need for the rest of the year.
Families of students in Year Three and Five will receive a letter next week outlining a timetable and providing some additional details. If you would like to chat in person to discuss any questions about NAPLAN, please see your child’s teacher or contact Mrs Hagley through the school office.
Term 1 Swimming
Book Club
Rangeville State School participates in Scholastic Book Club. Book Club Catalogues are issued twice a term and are sent home with your children.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to order and pay online. Visit www.scholastic.com.au/loop
We do not accept cash for Book Club orders at school. Yor child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to classes when they arrive.
Chess Lessons
We are off to a great start to the year and the chess lessons for term one are now full. If you would like your child to go on the waiting list, please email Mrs Prue Cunningham at pcunn1@eq.edu.au.
The annual Toowoomba District Primary School Individual Chess Championship is coming up.

Start Time: 8.30am arrival with a 9.00am (Sharp) start
Finish Time: Approximately 4.00pm
Venue: Highlands Christian College – Multi-Purpose Centre
Entry: $20.00 per student
Rangeville will have a teacher at the championship to supervise students. If your child is keen to compete, please email Mrs Prue Cunningham. Transport will need to be provided to and from the event.
Student Medication
As of the start of Term 1 2023, all medication (including asthma puffers) are required to be stored in the office and administered to the student at the office when needed, unless there are exceptional circumstances, which require approval from our HOSES, Julie Franklin. You will be asked to complete a new Consent to Administer Medication Form when you handover medications this term. You are welcome to fill in the form at the office or find it below.
QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. Please check there if your child has lost any items. More valuable items such as glasses and watches are held at the administration office. To ensure quick and easy return of lost items, we encourage you to clearly label them with your child's name. At the end of each term, any remaining items will be gathered and removed. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your cooperation.
Rangeville State School P&C Association Outside School Hours Care (ROSHC)
Welcome to ROSHC! We are thrilled to see the increase in permanent bookings for after school care. However please note that due to the high volume of bookings, we may not always be able to accommodate casual bookings and ask that you keep an eye on the Xplor app notification. We will always endeavour to take all bookings however there may be times that we cannot. If this occurs, we will notify you via phone and email. If you would like more information about ROSHC please email us at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au and we will send you our information handbooks and get the enrolment process started.
To support our growing number of enrolments, we are currently seeking new staff to join our amazing ROSHC team. If you or someone you know is interested in working in the fun and fast-growing industry of OSHC, please send us your resume at roshc@rangevilless.eq.edu.au or drop by the school hall for a chat.
This week at ROSHC we have been focusing on safety. Our staff have been engaging in conversations with the children about the areas of play, identifying the out-of-bounds areas, and discussing why they might be. We have been practising our 3 whistles throughout different times and the children have been getting really good at following the direction given by educators. We will be doing a lockdown drill and an evacuation drill this week to show all our new students and remind everyone on where we go and how they work.
We will be running a social and emotional wellbeing program for the next few weeks at the service. If you have any ideas you would like to share on this please see the ROSHC office educators.
